Yaryn Choi (pronounced “like karen, but with a y”) is a 25 year old, Korean-American artist hailing from Los Angeles, California.

From the tender age of four, Yaryn began studying classical piano. Her extensive training allowed her to develop a strong ear for harmony and rhythm, which, coupled with her love for popular music, led her to begin writing her own songs in high school. These low-production tracks were released on streaming service, SoundCloud, and have garnered a total of over 200,000 plays to date.

While studying Experimental Pop music at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), Yaryn took full control of her music making process from writing and producing, to mixing and mastering. Her recent collaboration with Turkish-born aisu, and Chilean-American Alé Araya, entitled “CHERRY COLA,” was created entirely by the trio of women, and despite the difficulties presented by the coronavirus pandemic, has an accompanying visualiser, which is available to stream here.

While at CalArts, Yaryn also further developed her interest in visual arts and graphic design, serving as an Institute graphic designer, creating posters for events and concerts around campus, and continues to demonstrate her prowess for visual aesthetics across a variety of creative projects.

After her graduation, Yaryn relocated to Seoul, South Korea, where she spent three years developing her creative skills, and also took her first step into the music business world. While working at K-Pop entertainment giant, HYBE (home to BTS, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, SEVENTEEN, and NewJeans, among others), Yaryn broadened her understanding of the music industry and the impact of locational culture on the entertainment industry and creation of marketing content.

Her time at HYBE sparked Yaryn’s interest in learning more about the ins-and-outs of the music business, which has led her to pursuing her M.A. in Global Entertainment and Music Business at Berklee College of Music’s campus in Valencia, Spain. She is expected to graduate in July 2024.
